Fellowship at Weil Foot & Ankle Institute
The Fellowship at the Weil Foot & Ankle Institute is the premier Podiatric Surgical Fellowship in the United States. The Fellowship is designed to enhance and refine the skills of residency trained Podiatric Surgeons. Under the guidance of Fellowship Director, Lowell Weil, Jr., DPM, FACFAS, Fellows at the Weil Foot & Ankle Institute are exposed to all aspects of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery as well as clinical decision making, post-operative management, Foot & Ankle Research, and practice management.
Prior to participation in the Fellowship at the Weil Foot & Ankle Institute, Fellows will have completed a comprehensive surgical residency program. The Fellowship is designed to refine those surgical skills by participating in a wide variety of very specialized surgical procedures that have been developed and refined by surgeons at the Weil Foot & Ankle Institute.
Fellows receive tremendous exposure and participate in scientific and business meetings with some of the most famous names in podiatric surgery, foot & ankle orthopedic surgery and members of the orthopedic industry.
The Weil Foot & Ankle Institute is committed to research and the Fellows are integral members of the research team. Fellows participate in all aspects of research from hypothesis and designing research studies, to participation in FDA clinical trails, to overseeing residents and students in their research activities. Fellows are required to create studies that are submitted for peer reviewed publication and encouraged to present their research in lecture settings.
Fellows also participate in the education of students and residents at our affiliated teaching hospital, Thorek Memorial Hospital. They act in a supervisory roll allowing them opportunities for decision making and honing of leadership skills.
Since 1995, Graduate Fellows from the Weil Foot & Ankle Institute have moved on to provide significant leadership and influence on a local as well as national basis.
