100 Women Making a Difference: Wendy Benton-Weil, DPM
Doctor of Podiatric Medicine, Weil Foot & Ankle InstituteToday’s Chicago Woman
July 2001
The podiatric foot and ankle surgeon has made time to heal the needy. Volunteering in Guatemala during residency, she operated on children with foot and ankle deformities 12 hours daily. Families traveled over 100 miles to the clinic. After entering private practice, she continued raising money and supplies for this mission. The mother of three also volunteers at running events and triathalons aiding injured athletes. Authoring many scientific publications, the physician's scheduled to speak at the country's largest foot and ankle meeting. Being active in Chicago's Big Brother/Big Sister Program, Wendy recently witnessed the child she mentored reach manhood and overcome hardship. Advice: "Happiness is a balance of both your personal and professional lives. In your professional life, accept noboundaries, yet maintain your femininity."
