MYTH. Don’t fool yourself! Even though they aren’t sharp I have actually had patients cause a sore from over pumicing. Exercise caution and err on the side of too little.

Everyone can use a pumice.

MYTH. People with diabetes, poor circulation, thin skin, on blood thinners, inability to feel their feet, and other health conditions should NEVER use a pumice stone. Check with your podiatrist to see if it is safe for you.

FACT. Your pumice stone needs to be thoroughly cleaned and soaked in an antibacterial solution 1-2 times per week to be sure that you are not growing a little colony…YUCK!!

Pumice stones should be disposed of after 1 month.

FACT. Buy a small pumice stone. They have nooks and crannies where colonies of fungus or bacteria form and are difficult to reach. We have nice ones at our office that are only $5 perfect for tossing so you aren’t scrubbing your skin with one that is home to a fungal family.
