Mount Prospect, IL – This holiday season Weil Foot & Ankle Institute (WFAI), the largest podiatry practice in the Midwest and one of the largest in the U.S., which has 30 podiatrists and 22 clinic locations in Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin, is giving back to their community by hosting a “Warm Soles Sock Drive.”
In this first annual event WFAI is collecting new pairs of socks to donate to the homeless members of their communities. Socks are the most requested items by homeless shelters and essential for podiatric health.
Dr. Mary Ann Bender, a physician at WFAI who is leading this effort, says “brutally cold weather in January and February puts the homeless population at very high risk for frostbite, infections, ulcerations, nerve damage, and pain. Being able to provide new, warm socks to the homeless is a small step toward keeping their feet warm and protected from the elements.”
Donations will be accepted through December 31st at your local WFAI clinic front desk. For additional information or to find a donation location near you please call 847-390-7666.
